Still have our 04 Sedona.
71,000 Kms
Still perfect.
Our dealer maintains it and stands behind it for any very minor problems which have been very few.
I'll buy another.

Just purchased a 2004 Rio...really liked the new ones but 2'nd vehicle will need replacing within a yr plus couldn't pass up the depreciation aka value on the used ones. Still has 2.5 yrs bumper to bumper warranty (almost that of most major makers warranties) or 72,000 km, great shape & good interior room for a commuter car.
Will let you know in about a yr. what I think.

I'm considering a used Kia Rio 5 as replacing my commuter car. As for comment on safety, even the older (2003+) had frontal crash ratings top in the class (side impact another issue but addressed in the remodelling).
As for crap at first then never touch (burned once.....?), remember that Honda's and Toyota's used to be considered sub-standard 'Jap Crap' for which these same people pay high re-sale prices for now. It's all in the timing & the models ie. from what I read, I would not touch the older spectras but the new ones may prove themselve.

Had a 2000 Rio - put 113,000 miles on it - no problems.

Have a 2005 Spectra now with 14,000 miles and no problems.

My wife liked how my Rio did so much, she sold her Buick and bought a 2005 Spectra on the same day. It was the salesman's first day and he sold two Spectra's!

kias really suck i was told that i can only get 5000 bucks for my 2002 spectra. in a trade..... terrible resale value i had to but extra warrenty. i computer went after 40000kms, driver seat broke after 45000kms, lifters in my engine gone after 65000km, and my tranny went at 95000kms. Can you say a peice of shit????

Kias also have among the lowest safety (crash test) ratings too. Sorry, zero tolerance for crap. Burn us once and you're out for good, no going back. The only Kia dealer in our area, who ironically is primarily a very prominent GM dealer, is even considering dropping the line.

The 2003 Spectra belongs to the older generation (A POS!). 2004.5 Spectra and up is the current generation and I have heard pretty good review about them and test drove one. Check out carsurvey.org for owner's opinion and google it for commercial reviews by car magazines etc.

The chaissis and engine both are different between the 2 generations and there is simply no comparison. Resale value will remain low until Kia establishes a better image, but this is true for all KIA/Hyundai, not just the Spectra.

We just traded my wife's '03 Spectra GSX for a Toyota Corolla LE. The Kia was the worse piece of junk we've ever had the displeasure of owning. Entire new front brake job (rotors, calipers, pads - the works) at only 30,000 miles, 80% of which is highway mileage. Front end was tight with good, even tire wear but sounded like it was coming off the car with every little bump (and I mean little). The list goes on and on. And forget the 10 yr, 100K mile warrany. It's a joke. The warranty that really counts (bumper to bumper) ends at 36K/3yrs. The 10yr warranty is a come on that only covers very minor items. The mileage rating was 32 but 25 was all she could get under the best of conditions.

The car had no body damage and had an almost perfect interior but we took a terrible beating on the trade (32,000 miles - $4,000.) because Kias have a very low resale value. The dealer told us they wouldn't even put it on their used lot but would wholesale it instead. Then, I heard through the grapevine the only Kia dealer in our area is considering dropping the line because of so problems.

Think three times before buying any Kia.

I recently bought a 2006 Rio. My wife & I love it. It is very roomy for a small car, has a very peppy four cylinder engine, is comfortable, and it's rated at 38 MPG. It also has LOADS of safety features.

Hey! I drive a KIA SPectra. It's a great little car. Gets great gas mileage. I've heard the new 2006 Rio is even better. and if you really want a beautiful luxury car, look at the Amonte. It's gorgeous & not pricey.

Whoa, for some of more childish posters here, it might be interesting to know that Honda's and Toyota's used to be considered sub-standard automobiles as well.

I am on my 3rd Kia. I have an 01 Sephia, 03 Optima , and an 06 Sorento. they all run great and I have had no problems with the first 2. The Sorento is still new but I love it. I think Kia will end up being equal to Honda and Toyota within 5 years. The first Toyotas and Hondas were garbage when they came out.
