With the battery out, the antitheft protection in the radio was activated. Does anyone know how to reset this? can it be cross-referenced from the VIN?

Nothing to do with the VIN. If you don't have it then you will need to call Acura or go the local dealer. I am sure that Acura will have the code in their records.
