I remember a long time ago my dad, a materialistic snob, bought the 1995 Saab 900 SE, and it lasted for about 12 years. The reason he bought it was because it was somewhat luxurious, despite GM's ownership--so that says a lot about the car itself. GM simply owned it, but it's not like the manufacturing was any different. It's just like how AT&T bought out Cingular--it's not like anything changed. The network wasn't the best, but it didn't get worse.

Troubled Swedish car maker Saab was hit by another blow as the Swedish Customs agency halted the flow of imported parts for its assembly over unpaid customs duties. Assembly line comes to a screeching halt.

The latest SAAB sob story

SAAB Automobile (as differentiated from the aircraft maker) is in the Swedish equivalent of Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Maybe they can get INVESTOR AB interested again.

GM should return it to Saab - it was a far better car when it was in Saab hands!

I like both GM and SAAB. Most of my vehicles have been GM or Saab. I think GM should keep Saab.

Many years ago when the decision was made by GM to purchase Saab it was for this reason. GM had/has a hard time selling Cadillac in Europe. It was GM's intent to use Saab as a way to get a Cadillac foothold. That was the way it was explained to me by the Swedes while training in Norcross, GA. Soon and very soon, Saab will no longer be made in Sweden. As far as sales go, I left Saab in early 2004 and everyone at SCUSA was tickled pink that they sold 40,000 cars. It's not alot for a car company

I agree with give_it_all to some degree. Saab is about the only line making money for GM (or at least with positive sales figures). However, Saab may do better without GM engineers tinkering with the line. The more Saab becomes a GM the less I am interested in the line ...... the latest versions are definitely lower end quality fit and finish.

Saab enthusiasts would disagree. I've driven mostly Saabs for 15 years and, even with all the GM influences, it's still one of the safest and most solid-feeling cars I've been in. And, for the money you spend, it's well worth it in terms of a luxury-type vehicle--lots of bells and whistles.

No. Saab is making money now. GM now needs Saab. Any money is good for GM.

This may be true for the US market, but GM Europe needs something to sell in Sweden.
