I like to buy my gas where they sell a lots of gas so that way I don't get the res of the tank and have some dirt in it. I also like to go were you come to the cash the cashier welcome you with a nice smile.

Location: There was a station right by the front gate of the place I worked for over 10 years.I bought gss or Diesel there only once perhaps twice in over ten years. IT is a solo station, couple of miles from other stations or towns or villages with post offices. There has been controversy as to in which Area it should be listed. The place where I worked downsized, the half nearest the station is Vacant & Available: for sale or lease. Now I go to that station because it often has one of the best prices of the two nearest areas.

LOCATION Is what I should should have stated. I check gas buddy and other sites to check gas and Diesel prices along any route I might take in a given week and pick a place to fuel up -or- modify the route to stop at a very cheap place if it is not far out of the way! Too often when the cheapest price at a solo station is price BOGUS! I look for a cluster of stations with good prices so if the best price is phoney, or the cheapest guy raises his price to match the neighborhood.I like a cluster of3 or 4 stations within 1/2 mile two such clusters within 2 miles is even better! Some station drop price 5¢ or 3¢ on a certain day or days. Too many just post a sign but are not very good about doing the price drop reliably

Availability of pay at the pump. I would be less likely to go to a station if I know they haven't upgraded their pumps for credit cards.

How about an other category? For car wash or service availability.

Since the question specifically excluded price, the location is most important. I always go to the cheapest station that I can get to with little or no deviation from my desired path. It does not take much extra driving to eliminate a few cents a gallon difference in price.

I would have voted for "Availability of ethanol-free gas" if it was possible, but can't find anyplace where I drive that I can get ethanol-free gas. I would drive out of my way and pay extra to get some.

Above all else, not having to pre-pay! Thanks to a few good-for-nothing thieves, this is a rare thing these days. Ingle's supermarkets don't require pre-pay at the pumps nearer to the pay-booth, and they have just about the lowest price around. About 90% of my local fuel purchases are there.

It's interesting that location is the overwhelming #1 choice. You'd think on a site full of price hawks, we'd drive a mile or two more to save.

Or maybe that says more about how gas prices are "fixed" than anything else.

Outside of price considerations, it has to be the most convenient on my driving route. No point going out of one's way if the costs are the same.

Accessibility /location of station is first on the list for me. I have not had any fuel related problems that would lead me to think I need to go out of my way to find good gas. The only gas related problem I recall having was with a Corvair I was restoring. I ran ethanol for the higher octane it required. This cleaned out the old fuel system and plugged all four carburetor filters. Since alcohol is a good solvent this was not a big surprise. After that first tank and with new filters everything was fine.

The reason people don't bother looking for non ethanol stations anymore is that they are all now E10 stations.

The Quality of gas and the up keep of the station is extremely important, however like most people PRICE is also a main factor in where I purchase gas.

Go Atomic! Oh, I forgot about the young cute Blondie with short dress and plunging v8 shirt when she bents over you can see for ever!!!

Really good at handing out change and smiles has she accidentally touches your hand. It's not her fault that she's short a dollar each time, after all no when is perfect. There's no category for entrainment!!! That's my most important factor that influences where I buy gas. Of course when the old lady is with me I pay at the station pump. Price only or show me.

Cheapest price is first, but then pay at the pump. I have driven away without pumping if I see they won't take my cc at the pump.

Also, if the sign doesn't match the pump price. Couple weeks ago I tried to stop at a place with a good price on the sign only to see the price at the pump was .10 higher than advertised. I drove to another station.

clean floor where you stop for gas, some places
there is oil or gas next to where you get off
to fill up, not at q.t. on forest and also at
mockingbrid next to love field. if the machine
runs out paper, just call the desk, and they
will bring your paper in last than two minutes
( I, have check them three times.

The hard to get to stations (left turns, lots of traffic, etc.) are always the most difficult to access. It sucks.

Price and how close to my location.. I won't go 10 miles out of my way to save 50 cents .. But I do have lots of choices within 2 miles to choose from, including Wal-Mart which gives me 3 cents per gallon under other alternative gas sources !!

My option wasn't available, but I support the stations that are the first to lower and the last to raise prices. There are always 3-4 stations in the same areas where I purchase gas with the same price and this is how I determine which station to purchase from.

For me it is accessibility. If it would require me to detour five minutes to get to a station because it is on a limited access highway, and I am going the wrong direction, or traffic is nightmare around it, I would avoid it.

I will always 'reward' the station selling at a lower price unless the station is significantly out of the way or looks like it my not be dispensing good fuel

Besides buying gas at the most convenient location for me as the main reason for me, I make it a point to try to buy gas at the same station ALL the time. That way, if I every wind up with a dirty contaminated load of fuel, I think I may have a better chance of getting the gas station to take care of any problem. It never happened to me, but I know a couple of people that had this problem. I have all the receipts to prove my purchases and the miles I drive to work out mathematically.
